Template examples

Pre-engineered metal building anchor rod plans are difficult for contractors to interpret since each manufacturer has their own standards and they are dimensioned differently than conventional structures. Below are examples of how the plans translate to the finished template that ensures proper placement.

Bypass Girt template

Bypass Girt

This is the most common Perimeter template where the inside face of girt bolts to the outside face of the column. Steel line, edge of concrete, is typically the girt depth away from face of column.

Flush Girt template

Flush Girt

A Perimeter template where the outside face of girt is flush with the outside face of column. Steel line, edge of concrete aligns with outside face of column.

Inset Girt template

Inset Girt

A Perimeter template where the girt offset is not equal to the girt depth or is flush to the column. The distance from the steel line, edge of concrete, to the face of column is most commonly 1" or 1.5" but can be any dimension smaller than the girt depth.

Interior Column template

Interior Column

Interior columns templates are used at any location that is away from the edges of the building. When columns are recessed below finished floor they will automatically match base place size to ensure sufficient blocked out area to set the column.

Corner Column template

Corner Column

Corner Column templates have a leg that extends to adjacent wall steel line, edge of concrete, to make sure the offset is correctly placed. The return leg is designed to snap off after the template is set to aid concrete finishing.

With Portal Columns template

With Portal Columns

Occurs at locations where a portal frame is adjacent to a main frame column. The bolt patterns for each column are combined into one template to eliminate the possibility of misaligning the two columns.

With Auxiliary Column template

With Auxiliary Column

Occurs at locations where there is an additional column adjacent to a flange of the main frame column. These are typically crane or mezzanine columns. The bolt patterns for each column are combined into one template to eliminate the possibility of misaligning the two columns.

Angle Brace template

Angle Brace

Occurs at locations where angle bracing requires additional rows of bolt holes perpendicular to the web of the column.

Base Plate Size template

Base Plate Size

This is an option that forces the template to match the size of the base plate. It is useful where columns sit either below the finished floor or on pedestals to ensure that the block out area or pedestal are sufficient size for the columns.

Extended Nailing Area template

Extended Nailing Area

Perimeter templates default to a 2" nailing area extending past the steel line, edge of concrete, allowing attachment to forms. This dimension can be extended to allow for a concrete notch for sheeting or the thickness of a veneer attaching outside the steel line.

About us

We have the experience

Anchoright is an American owned and operated company. The owners Matt North and Joe Mellody have over 60 years’ combined experience in the pre-engineered metal building industry. They have served in numerous positions in the industry including erector, foreman, superintendent, project manager, estimator, consultant, district sales manager, and construction company owner.

In 2019, Matt’s frustration due to additional costs and delays caused by misplaced anchor bolts hit its limit. He decided to make detailed templates for all his projects where each column location has a unique template with the grid lines. He purchased his first CNC table and started making precision templates. By word of mouth, it expanded to selling to other local contractors. In the subsequent years Matt was able to refine the process and determine the best materials to use for the templates.

Over the years, Joe encouraged Matt to increase production and market the templates nationally to facilitate accurate anchor bolt placement, fixing a problem that has plagued the industry for decades. Matt and Joe partnered in 2024 and started Anchoright to provide custom templates for the metal building industry.

The templates are precision made using CNC equipment showing the critical information to make accurate placement easy. The templates are made from ¾” cabinet grade plywood to withstand all types of environments.

What our customers are saying
Testimonials

“Thank You! Those were a huge help & the quality/labeling on them was awesome! I will definitely refer any customer requests for templates to you”

“Using Anchoright templates has made our crews more efficient in checking anchor bolt placement by the concrete contractor and has virtually eliminated all misplaced bolts.”

Tim Pascal
Steel Corporation

“I want to pass on my recommendation for the Anchoright bolt templates. We have been using these templates exclusively on all of our Pre-Engineered Metal Building projects since we were introduced to the product.

We recently finished a large 2-phase PEMB hangar project in Mesa Arizona. The first phase consisted of 3 multiple hangar buildings totaling over 160,000 S/f. The second phase was a close mirror to the first. On the first phase, we were not aware of the Anchoright templates. We had so many issues with the anchor bolts getting placed properly. These issues cost much time and money to both us and the concrete contractor. On the second phase, we were introduced to the Anchoright templates and provided them to the concrete contractor. To say the least, we had little to no issues with getting the bolts placed correctly. In fact, the concrete contractor even said that if the third phase proceeds, they will even chip in to the costs of the templates.

We highly recommend the Anchoright bolt template product. The time and money saved is worth the price.”
